He was a multi-sport participant before graduating from Newberry College in 1948. He played basketball for four years and when basketball was over he picked up his cleats & headed to the Diamond. He played second base after his first season for the remainder of his career. Marvin supported the football team by becoming apart of the football cheerleading squad.

Since there were no record books kept in the 1940’s, we cannot list the numerous individual contributions given to Newberry College by Marvin. While he was here, his teammates remember him as a great team player. For his leadership on the court he represented his team as captain. In addition to Marvin being a leader in athletics, he was also elected as Treasure of the Junior Class, chairman of the Social Club Council, member of the Vet Club, Blocking Club, and Who’s Who Among American Colleges and Universities. He is currently retired in Edgefield, SC.
