Newberry College Athletics

Ralph was from Buffalo, S.C., and was awarded an athletic scholarship in 1928. As a freshman he was a member of the football, basketball, and baseball teams during a time when no letters are awarded to freshman. His athletic prowess continued as he lettered in varsity football, basketball, and baseball in 1929, '30, and '31. He was a captain of the basketball team his senior season and led the state in scoring with an average of 18 points a game. He was voted best athlete his senior year.
