Newberry College Athletics

Walter was a member of the class of 1970. As a part of the early Newberry athletic teams, he was one of the greats. In football he was an outstanding end, in basketball a center, and in baseball a catcher. To the best of our knowledge he was the only Newberry athlete ever selected to the All-State teams in three different sports. With this record Renken has to rank among the all time outstanding athletes.
