Max Dubose hales from Bishopville S.C. Max an outstanding athlete lettered all four years in both baseball and football for the Indians. Max was a member of the 1951 State Champions as Newberry went undefeated in baseball. His talent in football earned him the honor of being voted outstanding running back by his teammates along with the privilege of being co-captain. With a batting average of 489, Max was selected to the All State baseball team.

The ultimate honor was bestowed on Max when his name was placed on the Laval athletic trophy awarded annually to the outstanding 4 year athlete presented by the class of 1947. This trophy is housed in the “Mom Reeves” trophy case in the Eleazer arena. Max was a member of Who”sWho in 1951 and 1952. Max is married to the former Barbara Byrd. They have a daughter, Marie Player and a son Max Jr. Marie and her husband Pete have 2 daughters. Max Jr. and his wife Jenny have one daughter. Max is enjoying his retirement from teaching while still active working for the ASCS Office Land Measuring. He also enjoys golf as a hobby.
