Barbara is a Newberry native and one of the first recruited players in the Lady Indian program that began in 1975.

She was a member of the first softball team that began in 1979. She was a three year starter in basketball, and led the team in scoring and was the MVP in each of those years.

She was named to the South Carolina Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for women All-State team in 1979. During the 1976-1977 she averaged 22.65 point per game and was second in the state in scoring. She held the highest double double average in the state with 22.26 ppg and 11 rebounds per game. She holds the record with most points scored in a game with 43; she had a single game high double double with 29 points and 24 rebounds. She holds the highest career scoring average with 20.46, she was the first female to score 1,000 points, she is sixth in career scoring (1,289), she is in the top five for rebounding, and she scored 475 points in the 1977-78 seasons.

Barbara was on the Dean’s List, a Senior Class Marshal, Bachman Honor Society, Cardinal National Honor Society and she graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1979.
