Larry lettered in track and football before having to go serve our country in WWII. Upon his return Larry continued his football career as a tackle. His senior year in 1946 Graves received Second Team All-State honors. He became head coach at Newberry High School after his college career. He taught in the economics department at Newberry until 1954 and was executive secretary of the South Carolina High School League. He held that position until his retirement in 1980 and was named Newberry College’s Outstanding Alumnus in 1983. He was a charter member of the President's Club and over the years has established six scholarships in the Graves family name.
