Tonique Frasier was a star women’s basketball player at Newberry from 2004-08, leading the Indians to their most successful run in program history. After being named to the South Atlantic Conference all-freshman team in 2005, she was named first team all-SAC three times – 2006, 2007 and 2008. She was the 2006 SAC Tournament MVP and was named second team Daktronics All-Region in 2008. Frasier led the Indians to three NCAA Tournament appearances in 2005, 2006 and 2007 – the first trips to the national postseason in the women’s basketball program’s history. The Walterboro native holds the school record for scoring (1,791 points), field goals made, field goals attempted, free throw attempts and games played. She ranks second in school history in rebounding (1,050) and holds a number of season and single game records, including grabbing a stunning 22 rebounds in one game. She went on to play professional basketball and has entered the coaching ranks.
