Timothy is a Charleston, S.C. native who came to Newberry College in the fall of 1976. He played for three seasons and became one of Newberry College’s best all time pitchers. In 1977, his 11 victories and 1 loss with a 1.72 ERA average, holds the record. He finished the career second in all time wins with 25. He is still the career leader with innings pitched at 279, the record for most strikeouts in a single season with 124(fourth in the nation), he is third career strikeouts with 271, and third in decisions with 232.

In a game against Findlay College in 1978, he became one of two pitchers at Newberry College to throw a no hitter. He holds the record with 3 shut-outs in a single season and pitched 5 during his career. Timothy is one of the most celebrated baseball players at Newberry College. He was named All-State, All-District, and the All Area teams in 1977. He was also a NAIA All American. He received All-State honors in 1978 and was a fifth round draft choice of the Milwaukee Brewers in the June free agent draft. Timothy pitched for the Silver Medal for US World Cup team in 1977.
