Newberry College Athletics

Jeffrey is a native of Savannah, Ga., who came to Newberry College in the fall of 1982. He became the top offensive lineman in Newberry College history. He started as a freshman and became a permanent fixture on the Indian’s offensive line. He played 44 consecutive games and led the Indians to 25 victories during his career.

He opened the hole for two 1,000 yard rushers and three 1,000 yard performers. He protected the second leading passer at Newberry College and was the leader on the offensive line of the team in 1985, which finished with a record of 7-3-1 and was ranked as high as No. 2 in the nation. They averaged 27.5 points, which is a team record that stood for 35 seasons. In 1983, Jeffrey was named First Team All NAIA District team, Second Team All SAC, First Team All American (1984), First Team All SAC (1984), and All NAIA District 6 (1984).

He finished his career in 1985 by being named to the NAIA All-American First Team. He was the first player in Newberry College history to be named to consecutive All American first teams. He also won the coveted Jacobs Blocking Trophy, an award given to the best blocker in the state of South Carolina, which is voted on by South Carolina media. He was named first team All SAC, All NAIA District 6, and voted to the All State team. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Industrial Safety in 1987.
