Scott is an Ohio native, who transferred from Clemson to Newberry College in 1975. He had an immediate impact on Newberry College basketball. He was named captain in 1977 and led the Indians to #1 National Ranking the team had a 36-1 record. For his efforts he was named All-NAIA District 6 and the District 6 MVP.

Donald received South Carolina All-State Honors and was named to the Sporting College and Lutheran All-American Honors in 1977. For his performance in tournaments he was named to the All-Little Four and the District 6 All-Tourney teams. During his senior season he led the NAIA District 6 and the state in rebounding. He set season single season records in 1976 & 1977 with 61% and he had 533 rebounds. In 1977 he set the single season record, Scott concluded his career by receiving the prestigious W.L. Laval Outstanding Athlete his award his senior season. Scott was then drafted by the New Jersey Nets and went on to a professional basketball careers in Sweden & Holland.
