Newberry College Athletics

David pitched a no-hitter at Newberry College and was a varsity letter winner for the baseball team during his career at Newberry College. The 1960 Newberry College graduate was inducted into the South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame in 2013 following his 2012 retirement.

In 46 seasons at Bamberg-Ehrhardt HS, Horton coached 1,150 games, winning a South Carolina High School League record 889 games and losing 261. Under his leadership, the Red Raiders established a championship standard in South Carolina in winning 14 state titles in 17 appearances. During a stretch between 1974 and 1981, B-E tied a national record with eight state titles won on the Class 2-A level.
