Newberry College Athletics

Chester came from Youngstown, Ohio in 1921. He was All-State football at half back as a freshmen and senior. Chester was also a versatile athlete who was an All-State center on the basketball team. He was a member of the basketball at Newberry that won four consecutive state championships. Chester later returned to Ohio for a high school coaching career. In 1958, he was named to the Youngstown Athletic Hall of Fame and into the Ohio Football Coaches Hall of Fame in 1974. He died in 1975.
