Grady Ray from Camden, S.C. started every football game for Newberry College as an offensive left halfback and defensive safety from 1952-1956. He led Newberry in rushing 1952, 53’, & 54’, in passing interceptions in 1952, 53’, & 54’, in punt returns & kick-offs for fours years, and passing receiving in 1953 & 55’. He led the state in rushing in 1953. Grady was selected first team halfback on the Little Four Team 1952, 53’, 54’, and 55’.

He was named Honorable Mention All-State in 1955’. He led the ground game in only two post season bowl games in Newberry’s history. In the Elk’s Bowl in 1954 he gained a 183 yards rushing and in the Shrine Bowl in 1955 he gained 156 yards. Grady played second baseman on the baseball team for two years. He led the team in stolen bases both of those years.
