Tymere Zimmerman was a two-sport star athlete and record breaker at Newberry College. His primary success came on the football field, where he demolished the record books at wide receiver. He earned all-South Atlantic Conference honors four times – second team honors as a freshman in 2003 and first team honors in 2004, 2005 and 2006. He was also an All-American in his junior and senior seasons. Zimmerman’s receiving numbers are simply staggering. He has the school and South Atlantic Conference records for receiving touchdowns with 40 – which is 18 more than his nearest competition in the school records. His 248 career points, 250 career receptions and 3,051 career yards are all also school records. His 977 yards in 2004 set a school singles season record and each of his four seasons in receptions and touchdowns are in the top 10 in the school records. He had over 100 receiving yards in a school-record 12 games and twice had three touchdowns in a game. Zimmerman was a team leader for the 11-2 team in 2006 which won the school’s first South Atlantic Conference championship in football and advanced to the NCAA Division II playoffs for the first time. He was also a three-year starter at power forward for the Indians’ basketball team, leading them to a runner-up finish in the 2004 South Atlantic Conference Tournament. Following his career at Newberry, he has gone on to a career in high school coaching, as well as continuing his playing career in various indoor leagues – still scoring touchdowns and dominating the competition.
