Cyril lettered in football, baseball, and basketball at Newberry College. He played offensive & defensive end in football, forward in basketball, and outfielder & third baseman in baseball. He started on every team for all three sports his sophomore year. In 1942 as an offensive end, he received Honorable Mention for the All State Football team and he tied for third place in scoring with 36 points with 6 Touchdowns. Also in 1942, he was a member of the team the won the state collegiate championships with a win over Clemson. He left college in 1943 to serve in the Army, but would return to Newberry College to play baseball in 1946.

He was selected to the Greenville Piedmont All State baseball team and went on to sign a professional contract with the New York Giants. Cy went onto coach at Eau Claire High School where his team won five conference championships and a State Championship. In 1993, he was a member of the National Championship Senior Olympic Basketball team that won the gold medal. He won 15 South Carolina Senior Tennis Championships. He has remained an active citizen in his community.
