In 1980 Mark Kennedy joined the Newberry Football program as a nose tackle from Mauldin High School in Mauldin, S.C. where he went on to have a successful career at the Middle Guard position. As a defensive lineman, Kennedy would have several accolades in an Indian jersey. Kennedy would have the Newberry record with eight fumbles recovered throughout his career. Kennedy also holds the season record for most forced fumbles in a season with five forced fumbles in the 1983 campaign. Kennedy is number two on the all-time career sack list with 26 career sacks.  Throughout his career, Kennedy would be a two-time All-District 6 performer (1982, and 83). Kennedy earned All-SAC honors twice in his career in 1983 and 1984. In 1983 Kennedy would be an honorable mention all-NAIA defensive middle guard. In 1984, Kennedy would be an NAIA All-American selection. Kennedy would graduate in 1985 after a successful career as an Indian. Kennedy currently lives in Murrells Inlet, with his wife Carolyn where he currently works at Key of Sea Charters. He has two sons Blake and Sammie. Sammie played football at Coastal Carolina university. In his spare time, Kennedy enjoys to go fishing out in the Atlantic Ocean.
