Newberry College Athletics

George Taylor from Sandy Run, S.C. compiled numerous honors in football during his career. He was named most valuable back twice, All-District 26 honors, Second team All-State (twice), and All Carolinas Conference team (twice). He set what was then a single season rushing record and was a Lutheran College All-American three consecutive years. He closed out his brilliant career by being selected to Who’s Who Among American Universities and Colleges and was named as an outstanding scholar athlete of America. He was captain of the football team in 1969.
