Newberry College Athletics

D.C. is a native of Charleston, who came to Newberry College in 1946. He earned four letters in football & basketball, and two in track. He was considered a “triple threat” as a passer, punter, and runner & was co-captain in his senior year.

In 1949, he was on the U.S. All-Star team in California, selected to the Little All-American team, All-Southern team, All-State team, All-Lutheran, and team captain. D.C. was chosen to Coach Laval’s All-Superlative Team and selected as State Athlete of the Year in 1949. He signed with the Baltimore Colts in 1950.
