Hall of Fame
Edgar was a student at Newberry College from 1934 to 1937. He was outstanding in football and in baseball. In football he played halfback and was recognized for his ability as a runner, passer, and kicker. He was even more outstanding in baseball and was named to the All State teams in 1935, 36’, and 37’. He played shortstop and first base and was one of the best in the south with both glove and bat. He was team captain in 1936 and 37’. He signed with the South Atlantic League pro team and records show him to be one of the best baseball players to ever play at Newberry College.
