Newberry College Athletics

“Sug” Horton was from Bethune S.C. He had a chance to play pro baseball but chose to attend Newberry College instead. He was a fine pitcher ending up with a 27-7 record.  He was a good hitter and coach Luval used him often as a pinch hitter.  He was named to the All State teams 3 of his 4 years. He was undefeated in 2 of his 4 years. Following graduation from Newberry College in 1952 he coached American Legion Baseball of Florence S.C.
