Hall of Fame
Johnny Harbin was all-state in football and all-conference in basketball for Berea High School and was a Harbin was a third-round pick of the California Angels before coming to Newberry College in 1968.
He earned All-America honors for the Indians as a shortstop in 1971 and 1972 as the team advanced to the NAIA District 6 Tournament both years and won the Â
1972 District 6 regular season title.
Harbin hit .408 in 1971 and his number 24 was retired.
After his senior year, Harbin was drafted in the first round with the 17th overall pick by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1972.
He was inducted into the inaugural class of the Berea High School Hall of Fame in 2012.
