Newberry College Athletics

Bobby was a South Carolina native and was a two sport standout in basketball and baseball. He graduated from Newberry College in 1954

He excelled the most on the diamond. Following his selection as an All-Star performer his junior and season in baseball, he signed a professional contract with the Philadelphia Phillies. However injury prevented him from continuing to play so he turned in his cleats for a clipboard and began coaching at Lockhart High School.

Seven years later he began working with insurance in the Abbeville area. When contacted about his admission to the Hall of Fame, Bailey said he was honored.
