Voight Epting was a two-sport athlete for Newberry College before graduating in 1932. He was a football letterman form 1929 to 1932, and a baseball letterman from 1930 to 1932. The 1930 baseball team was regarded as one of the best in the state, but Epting's most stellar performance came in his junior season of 1931. While winning all-state honors, Epting opened the season with a perfect game against Erskine College. Epting also participated as a halfback on the Indians' football team.

After graduating from Newberry, Epting played semi-ppro baseball and coached local youth baseball teams. In his professional life, he was a teacher, coach and administrator in schools all over South Carolina, influencing the lives of young people for 38 years. Epting passed away in 1986, leaving behind a legacy of both athletic and personal success.
