COVID-19 Athletic Communications Policies

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic, the following changes have been made to our policies to protect the safety of our student-athletes, coaches, staff, as well as the media.

  • All interview requests must be coordinated through the department of athletic communications (mike.sanders@newberry.edu). Members of the press attending Newberry College must follow all campus guidelines.  Face coverings are no longer required on campus.
  • If covering an event for a radio or television outlet, please inform the athletic communications office in advance.
  • If there is a need, all post game press conferences will take place virtually.  The athletic communications staff will arrange for student-athletes and coaches to be made available via Zoom within 30 minutes of the completion of the event.  It is strongly recommended that media members are equipped with the proper software on their laptop, tablet, phone, etc.
  • Statistical data for all sports may be found on www.newberrywolves.com

MEDIA GUIDELINES

Please be aware that at all home facilities, we have limited space. Therefore requests for seating must be made no later than 48 hours before game time. If you need a phone line or internet access, let us know and accommodations will be made to the best of our abilities. We respond to requests in the order they are received. Please email Director of Athletic Communications Michael Sanders to request a media credential.

Game-Day Information

Rosters and game-day programs will be available. If you need current season stats for Newberry, please let us know.
In terms of when we print game stats please refer to the below bullets:

  • Basketball and Football - After each period and end of game
  • Lacrosse, Field Hockey, and Soccer - Halftime and end of game
  • Baseball, Softball and Volleyball - The end of the game/match

If you wish to get stats, please let us know ahead of time.

Interviews

All requests for interviews with coaches and student-athletes must be directed to the Athletic Communications personnel responsible for the sport. They will contact them and set the interviews up. The coaches and student-athletes have busy schedules, so the more in advance the request; the easier it will be to get it scheduled.

Post Game Interviews - Please let the Athletic Communications representative know who you would like to interview after the game and he will set it up. There will be a 15-minute cooling off period after the end of games.

Interview Guidelines

  • We do not give out emails or phone numbers of our student-athletes.
  • For coaches, we will send your contact information to them. If a coach gives us approval, contact information will be sent to interviewers.
  • Interviews with coaches can be done in person, through e-mail or by phone.
  • All interviews with student-athletes must be done with the SID or a member of the coaching staff present and are allowed in-person or by phone.
