Anita Bulcher Covington was a four-year member of the Newberry women's basketball team, making her way into the Newberry and South Atlantic Conference record book in multiple categories. In the Newberry record book, Bulcher Covington is first in free throws made and attempt in a season, second in single season rebounds with 352, fifth in single season scoring with 488 points, fifth in career blocks with 88 and ninth in career rebounds with 765. For the SAC record book, Bulcher Covington is seventh in single-season rebounding, tied for fifth in single-game rebounding with 22, and is ninth with a career field goal percentage of 54.4 percent.

A Russia, Ohio native, Bulcher Covington was a part of two SAC Championship teams in her first two seasons, while making it to the SAC tournament in her final two seasons. In her junior season, she averaged 13.3 points per game which was good for third best on the team, shot 56.3 percent from the field which was second best and averaged 8.7 rebounds a game, a team-high. In her senior season, Bulcher Covington averaged a double-double while leading the team in multiple statistical categories. She averaged 16.3 points and 11.7 rebounds while shooting 55.6 percent from the field.

Buchler Covington closed out her career as one of the most decorated athletes in Newberry history. She was an all-South Atlantic Conference first team selection, was a first team selection for the ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America® College Division team, named to the DAKTRONICS all-Southeast Region team, and was awarded the 2009-10 South Atlantic Conference Presidents Award. She was the second Newberry student-athlete to win the SAC Presidents Award. To cap off her senior season, Bulcher Covington was named the SAC nominee for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award.

She was also presented with the 2010 W.L. Laval Award which is presented to a member of the Newberry College senior class who is judged to be outstanding in athletics, scholarship, character and leadership.
