Newberry College Athletics

A native of Camfield Ohio, Danny entered Newberry College in the fall of 1936. He entered Newberry on a football/basketball scholarship. However he excelled in the sport of track. During his track career Danny established hisself as a fine track athlete. He earned high recognition particularly in the event of shot put, pole vault, discus, hurdles, and the high jump. In 1938 he set a state record in the shot put at 48 feet 1 5/8 inches. Additionally Danny was active in the Block N Club and several other campus and community service organizations.
