Newberry College Athletics

“Red” Lynch was from Camden S.C. He entered Newberry College in 1940 and his education was interrupted in 1941 by WW II.  In 1945 he returned to Newberry and for 3 years lettered in football, basketball, and baseball. He has been described as a hard nosed football player. He was a good baseball and basketball player but was best known for football. He was top scorer in the state in 1946, 2nd team All Ste in 1946-47, Honorable Mention Little All American in 1947, 1^st team Little Four in 1946-47.  Following graduation “Red” was a very successful high school coach.
