“Red” Lynch was from Camden S.C. He entered Newberry College in 1940 and his education was interrupted in 1941 by WW II. In 1945 he returned to Newberry and for 3 years lettered in football, basketball, and baseball. He has been described as a hard nosed football player. He was a good baseball and basketball player but was best known for football. He was top scorer in the state in 1946, 2nd team All Ste in 1946-47, Honorable Mention Little All American in 1947, 1st team Little Four in 1946-47. Following graduation “Red” was a very successful high school coach.
