Robert transferred from USC and as a three year letterman, he established himself as one of Newberry’s best basketball players ever. In 1977, he led the entire nation in assists and was Second Team All-State & First Team Lutheran All-American. In 1978, Robert was selected All-State, Lutheran All-American, District Six Player of the Year, and received the Laval Award as the outstanding senior athlete. During his career, he set many records and was apart of the most successful basketball era in the history of Newberry. In honor of his outstanding play, his number 25 jersey was one of the few ever retired.
