E. Woody, from West Columbia, S.C. had a distinguished athletic career from 1937-1941. He earned 13 athletic letters. In football he played tailback, called signals, punted, did kick-offs, and PAT. He still holds the school record for longest punt return of 95 yards versus Erskine in 1940. He played defensive safety and was co-captain. Woody played second base and short stop on the baseball team & pitched relief when needed. He batted over .300 in his senior year. He also played guard for two years and forward for two years on the basketball team. He also helped them get a winning record each year. In his senior year, he lettered in track as he ran dashes on the track team.
