Phillipi, W. Va. – Fresh off of their first win in program history, the Wolves hit the road for a weekend trip to West Virginia to face the Battlers of Alderson Broaddus University. Being the first matchup between both teams, it would be interesting to see how both teams would be as coach
Emily Roskopf and the Wolves would look to take both games against the Battlers and leave with momentum with the season fully underway.
Game 1: Wolves 17, Battlers 7
The Wolves started the two game slate with a bang by taking the first match of the morning. The scoring started off with freshman
Anna Howell (Boise, Idaho) scoring her first try of the season. After being able to get the ball back, the Wolves would get on the scoreboard again with a second score from Howell. The final try of the game would be scored by junior
Taqwai Seburn (Warner Robins, Ga.), as she would find herself all alone for the try. Freshman
Dantzler Long (Newberry, S.C.) would also earn points for the Wolves as she was able to successfully make a conversion in the match.
Game 2: Battlers 15, Wolves 10
The second match of the day would not be kind to the Wolves as they made it close but were not able to find the third try to equalize against the Battlers. Freshman
Anna Howell would again score a try in the match for her first score of the match but her third between the two games. Freshman
Dasha Timms (Anderson, S.C.) would also score for the Wolves for the first of her career, but that would be all the scoring that would happen for Newberry.
With a 2-2 record, the Wolves will again be on the road next weekend on September 24 for a three game series in Charlotte, N.C. as they play Queens at 11 and 11:30 AM, followed by a match against Kennesaw State at noon.
