On October 12th, Newberry College took part in the Guilford College 7's tournament. They ended the match with a tied with Emory & Henry with a score of 17-17, secured a narrow victory against Guilford College with a score of 24-22, and losing to Frostburg with a score of 0-52.
Match One
During the first game against the Wasps of Emory & Henry, the Wasps struck first, scoring the opening try of the match. Newberry College quickly responded with a try by
Lucy Miller. Emory & Henry then scored two back-to-back tries, successfully converting one, which gave them the lead. However, Newberry fought back, scoring two tries—one from
Jessie Deane and another from
C'niyah McCrary—along with a conversion from
Emily Pulley. The match concluded with a final score of 17-17.
Match Two
In the second match of the day against the Quakers of Guilford College, Newberry College took an early lead by scoring the opening try, executed by
Amanda Moore. The Quakers quickly responded with a try of their own, leveling the playing field. Newberry then regained the lead with a try from Pulley.
However, Guilford fought back, scoring two tries along with a successful conversion, which put them ahead. The Wolves responded with a determined effort, highlighted by a try from
Lexi Zloba and another conversion from Pulley.
In a thrilling conclusion, Newberry secured the game-winning try with another score from
Amanda Moore, followed by a conversion from Pulley. The match ended in a nail-biter, with the final score reading 24-22 in favor of the Wolves.
Match Three
In the final match of the day, the Wolves faced off against the Bobcats of Frostburg. The Bobcats capitalized on their offensive opportunities, scoring a flurry of tries while successfully holding the Wolves' offense to zero points. The match concluded with a final score of 0-52 in favor of the Bobcats.
Amanda Moore was named Player of The Day.
