NEWBERRY, S.C. - Women's rugby shows resilience as they go 1-3 on the day.
In the first match of the day, the women got outclassed by a deep Lander squad. Defensively
Archkela Lane and
Elena Jimenez were beneficial in slowing down the bearcats, supplying multiple needed tackles. Standout
Vicky Noel showed up on both side of the ball, tallying multiple tackles and chase downs as well as giving the wolves their only try of the match.
Dantzler Long converted the try adding to her impressive conversion record.
The second match did not help in the wolves campaign. Noel was the lone scorer and Long converted her kick. Appearing to be a lot more sound on defense, the team only allowed 15 points.
Savannah Armistead came in big with key tackles that thwarted would be trys for the opponent. An unforeseen injury during a tackle made by
Elena Jimenez thinned the squad, unfortunately she would have to miss the remainder of the match.
Everything came full circle in the third match for the women. Winning 24-7 the wolves showed their true potential all with the cards they were given. An absolutely dominant showing for both Noel and Armistead, both add two trys to their name and numerous tackles.
Dantzler Long found the try zone as well and was inches away from getting a second. Dragging her defender down the center of the field, Long was brought down at the two yard line but found Noel to offload so she could finish the point.
Exhaustion and injuries lingered into the final match for the wolves. Dropping the match 5-20 did not reflect how the team performed, having possession of the ball for almost half the match, the wolves played to the best of their ability regardless of having no substitutions the day.
Archkela Lane and Armistead yet again gave a strong defensive campaign with Noel getting her fifth try on the day.
