Greensboro, NC- The Newberry College women's rugby team defeated Warren Wilson 19-17 in game three to secure a 2-1 series victory in the 2024 season opener. finished Sunday with a 2-1 record at Warren Wilson.
The Owls won a tight game one 12-10 before the Wolves rallied to tie the series 17-5 in game two to set up the decisive game three showdown.
Game One
The Wolves faced a narrow defeat against the Owls of Warren Wilson, losing 12-10 in their opening match of the day. Freshmen Lexi Zloba and Amanda Moore both scored tries.
Game Two
The Wolves secured a convincing victory over the Owls by the score of 17-5. Freshman Amanda Moore led the charge with two tries, while C'niyah McCrary, also a freshman, added one try. Additionally, Freshman Ella Litwin-Scanzani contributed with a successful conversion.
Game Three
The Wolves earned a hard-fought win in their final match of the day with a score of 19-17 to earn the 2-1 series victory. Freshmen Jess Deane, Lexi Zloba, and Emily Pulley each scored a try, with Ella Litwin-Scanzani also contributing four points through two successful conversions.
Emily Pulley was nominated player of the day.
The Wolves, with a 2-1 record, will be back on the road on September 14th, facing off at Bryan Park in Greensboro, North Carolina
