Box Score NEWBERRY, SC - The Newberry College men's tennis team put up a strong fight but ultimately fell to Catawba College in South Atlantic Conference action on Tuesday. Despite early success in doubles play, the Wolves were unable to turn the momentum into a victory, dropping the match to the Indians.
Newberry started off with a bright spot in doubles competition as the duo of James Vincent and Daniel Watson secured a commanding 6-2 win. However, the Wolves dropped the remaining two doubles matches, giving Catawba the early advantage heading into singles play.
In singles action, Newberry battled hard, but Catawba proved to be the stronger side. Daniel Watson and Gabriel Fernandez-Iglesias fell in straight sets, while Senthen Reddy also suffered a tough loss. Several matches were left unfinished, with James Vincent, David Negzaoui, and Joshua Fritz still competing when play was halted.
The Wolves will compete next on the road on March 29th against Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, TN.
