Women's Rugby goes 1-2 at Lander

GREENWOOD, S.C.- Women's Rugby finishes their first 7s tournament of season going 1-2 at Lander.

MATCH ONE vs LANDER
Featuring an almost entirely new squad of starters, the Wolves opened the tournament play against nationally recognized Lander University. The Women dropped the match 32-0 as Lander would take an early lead and hold on. Defensively, sophomores Vicky Noel, Dantzler Long and Savannah Armistead came in crucial to slow down the Lander offense providing key tackles. The women aimed to keep their heads up as they prepared for a favorable match-up against Emory & Henry.

MATCH TWO vs EMORY & HENRY
The Wolves showed incredible defensive prowess as they unfortunately drop their second match 10-7. Freshman Teagan Barth started the game off with an explosive run down the right side of the field setting up the first goal of the season by Vicky Noel and a conversion by Dantzler Long. After drawing first blood, the Wolves only allowed one try and conversion against them until the final minutes of the match where Emory & Henry kicked a field goal sealing the game.

MATCH THREE vs EMORY & HENRY
Firing on all cylinders in the opening minutes of the match, the women gained their first win of the season going 26-5 after an impressive team effort. Dantzler Long found the try zone this match while being the teams backbone for conversions, finishing the match converting 3 out of 4 attempts, finishing the tournament 4-5 with 13 points. Vicky Noel continued her dominant campaign scoring 2 more tries, finishing the tournament with 15 points. Stepping out of the defensive spotlight and into the offensive spotlight, Savannah Armistead gained her first try of the match as well. Newcomers Muireann Faber and Teagan Barth supplied a plethora of crucial stops to hold the wasps to 1 try.

Savannah Armistead was nominated player of the tournament.

The Wolves look to Sunday, Sept 17 where they'll travel to Emory & Henry for another 7s tournament.
