CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Newberry women's basketball fell on the road to Queens on Wednesday evening at the Levine Center by a final score of 79-57.
Newberry had three score in double digits with
Kelsey McDermott leading the team with 15 points while
Shelby Britten and
Meg Essex added 10 each.
Courtney Lyons got things started with a 3-pointer on the first possession of the game. The Royals would end up battling back and forth to tie the game at 11-all before ending the first quarter on a 14-6 run to lead by eight.
Britten made a jumper in the second quarter to cut the lead to only three before the Royals pushed the lead to nine as the half came to a close.
The Wolves came within six points after a 3-pointer from Britten early in the third quarter until the Royals defense hunkered down, forcing Newberry into difficult shots.
Queens carried their impressive defense into the fourth quarter leading to a double-digit victory over the Wolves.
