Wolves fall to Emmanuel at home

Box Score NEWBERRY- The Men's Tennis team fell to Emmanuel College 3-4 on Friday afternoon at the Oakland Tennis Center.

Edison Ambazumjan and Enrico Haas were able to pick up the lone doubles victory for the Wolves. The senior and sophomore standouts were able to cruise by Lucas Sasaki and Thembokwakhe Makhanya by a 6-2 decision. 

Singles play went back and forth between the two opponents as Newberry won three matches as did the Saints. Ambazumjan and Haas were able to transition their success to singles play as they defeated their opponents. Ambazumjun took down Makhanya 6-3, 6-4, while Haas prevailed over Juan Carlos Romero 6-4,6-1. Freshmen Marcel Schomburg from Bingen, Germany,  was able to pick up a win for his team in a close battle against Hassan Badran 6-4, 6-3. Newberry had several tough matches across the board, including two that went into third sets. Luca Kirchoff forced a match two a third set but fell to Lucas Kasaki 5-7,6-2,4-6. 

The Wolves will return to action tomorrow Oct. 5, as they travel to Central S.C to face Southern Wesleyan in a doubleheader. The first match will commence at 10 AM.
