BREVARD, N.C. – The Newberry College men’s tennis team’s season concluded on Thursday afternoon as they fell to the No. 4 seed Queens University Royals 5-0 at the McCoy Tennis Complex.
The Wolves started out in high contention in doubles competition but the Royals pulled away in the final games to earn the set victories. At the No. 3 doubles contest, Zachary Williams and Ole-Jacob Meum defeated Jordan Monosky (Clearwater, Fla.) and Angel Pizarro (Madrid, Spain) fell 8-4. In the second doubles court, Carlos Nicolopulous (Valencia, Venezuel) and Richard Zeh (Petersaurach, Germany) dropped their contest to the Queens duo of Jules Athalis and Will Roberson 8-5. At the top flight doubles matchup, Fernando Espana (Madrid, Spain) and Fernando Tous (Spain) fell 8-5 to Per-Erik Soler and Andor Vas in a battle of two All-SAC doubles first-team members.
In singles competition Zeh fell to Williams at the No. 6 singles matchup in straight sets 6-0, 6-4. The No. 5 singles competition clinched the match for Queens as Meum earned a 6-1, 7-5 victory against Monosky. The top-four seeded singles contests were not completed due to Queens already clinching the match.
Newberry finishes the season with an overall record of 12-9 including a 6-5 conference record.
