Lepaio's 21 points lead all scorers in Wolves' 70-57 loss at Voorhees

DENMARK, S.C. - Despite a 21-point outing by leading scorer Haylee Lepaio the Newberry women's basketball team was unable to hold onto a five-point first half lead as the Wolves dropped a 70-57 decision at Voorhees College.

The Lady Tigers (5-6) hit eight 3-pointers to climb back into the game and were led offensively by Kierra Patterson's 16 points.

The Wolves (3-2) held a lead throughout the first half and led by as many as eight points twice during the first period. Voorhees cut into the Wolves lead early in the second half when Patterson hit a 3-point shot to give the Lady Tigers their first lead of the evening.

After taking over the lead in the second half Voorhees the Lady Tigers never surrendered the lead and at one point led by as many as 20 points before the Wolves cut the lead to 11 points on a 3-point make from Neicey Lewis (Riverdale, Ga.).

Lepaio led all scorers with her 21 points and added a game high eight rebounds. The freshman added five blocks to her stat line on the evening. Lewis added 12 points of her own along with three steals, while Ellie Gleeson (Albury, New South Wales, Australia) was second on the Newberry roster in rebounds with six.

Patterson added four rebounds to her team high 16 points, while Courtney McDuffie tallied 13 points and six rebounds for Voorhees.

Newberry returns to Eleazer Arena on Saturday for a 2 p.m. meeting with conference foe Lenoir-Rhyne.
