Kent’s 27 Points Power Newberry Past Emory & Henry

MEADOWVIEW, Va. — The Newberry College women's basketball team turned in a complete performance on Saturday afternoon, earning a 79–66 South Atlantic Conference road victory over Emory & Henry at the King Center. The win moves the Wolves to 7–3 overall and 1–3 in SAC play as they continue to build momentum heading into the heart of the conference schedule.

Newberry set the tone early, taking a 19–13 lead after the opening quarter and maintaining control through disciplined defense and aggressive play inside. The Wolves attacked the basket consistently and made the most of their opportunities at the free-throw line, finishing 28-of-38 at the stripe. Newberry also owned the glass, collecting 38 total rebounds, including 17 on the offensive end, which led to key second-chance points throughout the contest.

Offensively, Marykate Kent led all scorers with 27 points, knocking down six three-pointers and providing a steady scoring presence from the perimeter. Rickell Brown added 20 points, using her ability to get to the line to keep pressure on the defense, while Destiny Mattison delivered a strong effort in the paint with 10 rebounds to go along with solid interior defense. The Wolves also benefited from balanced contributions across the lineup, including timely bench production and strong ball movement.

Newberry sealed the win with a strong fourth quarter, scoring 27 points and responding to every Emory & Henry push down the stretch. The Wolves capitalized on turnovers, converting them into 21 points, and maintained composure to close out the conference road victory.

The Wolves return home on December 17 to host Anderson in their next South Atlantic Conference matchup.
