Brown’s 24 Points Highlight Strong Newberry Performance

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Newberry delivered a determined and efficient performance on the road Wednesday evening, showcasing strong shooting stretches and multiple standout efforts in a competitive 69–58 matchup at Coker. The Wolves (6-3, 0-3 SAC) opened the night with confidence, shooting 7-of-12 in the first quarter and knocking down two early threes to set the tone. Newberry's ability to score in the paint was a driving force throughout the game, finishing with 30 points inside and consistently creating high-percentage opportunities. Defensively, the Wolves forced momentum-shifting turnovers and held Coker to just 12 points in the second quarter, keeping the matchup within striking distance at halftime.

The Wolves' offense was powered by an outstanding performance from Rickell Brown, who delivered a game-high 24 points on an efficient 11-of-22 shooting while adding five assists and four rebounds. Brown sparked Newberry in multiple scoring runs, particularly in the opening period where she helped the Wolves swing early momentum. Marykate Kent continued her reliable perimeter scoring, posting 12 points on 3-of-6 shooting from beyond the arc and adding a key layup to stop a Coker surge. Leigha Harris provided steady interior presence, finishing a perfect 3-for-3 from the field with six points, four rebounds, a block, and a steal. Off the bench, Hannah Nimmo contributed an immediate spark, knocking down two threes for six points in only eight minutes of action.

On the defensive end, Newberry produced four blocks including three from Nyah Vermeulen while pulling down 32 rebounds to limit second-chance opportunities. The Wolves also capitalized on Coker turnovers, turning them into 14 points and pushing the transition game for eight fast-break points. Despite a strong third quarter from the Cobras at the free throw line, Newberry continued to compete, keeping the game within reach into the final minutes. Newberry returns to action on Saturday, December 13, on the road to face Emory & Henry at 2 p.m.
