Lepaio's 20 points not enough as Wolves fall to No. 1 Lakers 72-46

MORROW, Ga. - Haylee Lepaio led all scorers with 20 points as the Wolves fell 72-46 to No. 1 Clayton State on Saturday evening.

Lepaio (Bathurst, New South Wales, Australia) led all scorers in the first half with 13 points, but Newberry (2-1) entered the locker room at halftime trailing the Lakers (3-0) 32-26. The two teams exchanged turnovers in the first period and while the two teams felt each other out, both squads recorded 13 turnovers. The Wolves were outrebounded 17-15 in the first half.

Newberry was unable to recover from the first half deficit, as turnovers and foul trouble for Newberry allowed the Lakers to extend their lead throughout the second half.

Clayton State pushed its lead to double digits with 12:25 on the clock as a Wolves turnover led to a layup basket for the Lakers.

Clayton State took its lead to as many as 29 points before a three-pointer by freshman Zara Pearson (Echuca, Victoria, Australia) cut the Lakers lead to 26 before time expired.

Lepaio also led Newberry with seven rebounds and three assists, while Kendra Brown (Swansea, S.C.) added four assists.

Newberry returns to action on November 22, at home against Converse at 6 p.m.
