NEWBERRY, SC - The Newberry College men's tennis team delivered a dominant performance Saturday afternoon, defeating Emory & Henry 4-0 in conference play at home.
The Wolves set the tone early by sweeping the doubles point. The No. 1 tandem of Martin Posada Garcia and Daniel Watson secured a 6-2 victory, while Senthen Reddy and Sohei Kamiyama followed with a strong 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles. At No. 3 doubles, Evan Philips and Noel Bartz held a 5-2 advantage before the match was halted once the point was clinched.
Carrying that momentum into singles, Newberry wasted little time putting the match out of reach.
At No. 1 singles, Daniel Watson was sharp from the outset, earning a decisive 6-0, 6-1 victory. Sohei Kamiyama followed with a commanding 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles to extend the Wolves' lead.
The clinching point came from Noel Bartz at No. 5 singles, who cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 victory to seal the 4-0 team win.
Other singles matches were left unfinished after the Wolves secured the fourth point. Senthen Reddy led 6-2, 4-1 at No. 2 singles, while Martin Posada Garcia was battling in a tightly contested match at No. 3. At No. 6 singles, Evan Philips was competing in a close matchup before play was stopped.
The Wolves will look to build on this performance as they continue conference play on March 4th at Mars Hill University.
