ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – After the first of two rounds at the Coastal Georgia Winter Invite at King and Prince Golf Club, the Newberry College women's golf team is in first place by one stroke over Southeastern University (Fla.). The third-place team, Savannah College of Art and Design, Atlanta, is nine shots back of the Wolves.
Nicole Strydom sits in first place on the individual leaderboard after carding a 1-under 71 today. Strydom made four birdies during the opening round which was tied for most in the field, and her 3.90 scoring average on par 4s is also tied for best in the field.
Noelia Adkins shot a 4-over 76 today and is tied for sixth on the individual leaderboard. Adkins' 2.75 scoring average on par 3s is tied for first among her competitors.
Sofia Liden and
Julie Hoscalkova each shot a 79 in their first rounds and are tied for 12th as the Wolves are 17-over collectively.
Ashton Thomas had an 86 in her first round and made one of Newberry's eight tournament-leading birdies.
