JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – For the second consecutive season, the Newberry College women's golf team took home the winner's trophy at the Coastal Georgia Fall Invite. Shooting 307-308 for a team score of 615, the Wolves won by nine strokes over Truett McConnell in second place with St. Thomas University (Fla.) behind them in third.
Sophomore
Nicole Strydom finished second overall in the tournament, shooting 74-76, just a shot behind a Truett McConnell player.
Noelia Adkins was the third-place finisher, combining scores of 75 and 76 over the two-day tournament.
"Solid tournament that satisfies us but encourages us more," Head Coach
Charles Van Horn said. "It shows we have the ability to shoot low, so we just have to play better in the bigger tournaments moving forward."
Sofia Liden carded a 77 on Day 1 and a 78 on Day 2 to also finish in the top-10.
Aubree Clements saw great improvement from Monday to Tuesday, firing off a 78 in the second round after shooting an 85 on the first day.
Blanca Noriega was fifth on the Wolves with an 81-85 scorecard for the tournament.
Newberry will have a week off before hosting the Newberry Women's Golf Invitational at the Harbor Club in Greensboro, Ga., Sept. 24-26.
