GREENSBORO, Ga. – Hosting a tournament for the first time in a number of years, the Newberry College women's golf team currently sits atop the leader board at the Newberry Invitational at the Harbor Club on Lake Oconee in Greensboro, Ga.
A perfect day on the course led the Wolves to a 323 on the day, giving them a four-stroke lead over second place Coastal Georgia. University of South Carolina Beaufort, a new member to the ranks NCAA Division II, sits in third sixteen strokes behind the Wolves while Georgia Military College rounds out the leader board with a 376.
Individually, the Wolves and the tournament are led by Noelia Adkins (Bristol, Tenn.) who opened the tournament with a first-round 77. Sophomore Julia Jarvholm (Umea, Sweden) currently sits tied for second place with four other competitors who were able to card an opening round 79. Freshman Aubree Clements currently sits all alone in sixth place from the 80 (+8) that she turned in this afternoon while sophomore Ida Hansen (Oerebro, Sweden) is just two places behind her in eighth place with her first-round score of 83.
Freshman Nicole Strydom posted a first-round score of 84 to sit in a tie for ninth on the day while sophomore Sofia Liden hit just two strokes more than her in the opener to sit in a tie for 13th with an 86. Junior Ashton Thomas (Spartanburg, S.C.) and junior Maggie Runyon (Charleston, S.C.) rounded out that day for the Wolves with 17th and 22nd place finishes, respectively.
The second round of the tournament kicks off tomorrow morning as each group will go off on the first-tee starting at 10:10 a.m.
