Wolves Sit In Fourth Place After Day One of Jekyll Island Intercollegiate

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – Returning to the course for their final fall tune-up, the Newberry College women's golf team currently sits in fourth place at the Jekyll Island Intercollegiate hosted by Lincoln Memorial University at Jekyll Island Golf Club.

The hosts LMU currently sit atop of the leader board with an even par performance in the opening round of action. Shorter and UNC Pembroke sit at 10 and 11-over respectively in second and third while the Wolves are just two strokes behind them with a 13-over score.

Freshman Noelia Adkins (Bristol, Tenn.) led the way for the Scarlet and Gray as she was able to finish the opening round with a one-over 73 to sit in ninth place for the tournament. Right there with her in ninth place was junior Sofia Liden (Sweden) who also was able to finish just one-over on the day as she was able to birdie three of her last four holes.

Sophomore Julia Jarvholm (Umea, Sweden) currently sits in a tie for 23rd as she carded a three-over 75 in the opening round, followed closely behind by sophomore Ida Hansen (Oerebro, Sweden) who tallied an 80 on the day to finish eight-over an in a tie for 56th.  Junior Ashton Thomas (Spartanburg, S.C.) rounded out the scoring for the Wolves as she turned in a 90 on the day to sit in 91st place.

The Wolves return to action tomorrow morning as they finish out the tournament with a final 18-hole round starting at 9:00 a.m.
