Box Score GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – The Newberry men's tennis team was able to edge out host Tusculum Saturday afternoon, 4-3 at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
The Wolves (8-10, 2-3 SAC) were able to secure the doubles points with wins from their first and second doubles teams.
Edison Ambarzumjan and
Enrico Haas defeated Gabriel Yaguar and Tim Klee 6-4 in the first doubles matchup.
Jose Navarro and
Sean Nguyen were able to cruise past Yago Fernandez and Jacco Mensinga with a 6-2 win to lock up the doubles point.
Ambarzumajn was able to pick up his win in singles action in two sets against No. 33 David Akinpetide. In the first set, Amabrzumjan was able to edge out Akinpetide with a 6-4 win. In the second set, Ambarzumjan dominated Akinpetide in a 6-1 win.
Nguyen was able to get his win in singles action, needing three sets to do so. Nguyen was able to get the 6-1 win in the first set over Manuel Almeida before Almeida flipped the script in the second set. Nguyen was able to persevere in the third set, winning 6-4.
Haas was able to add another win to his total, defeating Vadzim Raitsou in two sets. Haas was pushed to the limits in the first set but came away with the 7-5 win. Haas wrapped up the match in the second set set with a 6-3 win.
The Wolves will be back home next Tuesday as they take on North Georgia at 2 p.m.
