PHILIPPI, W. VA. – Four Wolves recorded at least a hat trick on their way to a 13-6 win over Alderson Broaddus Saturday afternoon.
Jeremy Ross led the charge for Newberry (5-0, 0-0 SAC), finding the net four times.
Dylan Mansur,
Zachary Sunderland and
Brady Kearnan tacked on the other goals, scoring three each.
Stone Boone was the facilitator for the Wolves, having three assists.
Neil Swingruber,
Belton Bryan and Mansur added one assists each.
Ross got the Wolves on the board early in just under two minutes of action. Sunderland quickly followed with his first goal at the 11:37 mark to put Newberry up 2-0. Bryan was able to set up Mansur with his first goal while Swingruber found Ross for his second goal to take a commanding 4-0 lead at the halfway point of the first quarter. The Battlers were able to get one back with 6:02 to play in the first to make it 4-1. Kearnan was able to quickly get that goal back to push the lead back to four. Kearnan and Sunderland tacked on two more goals for Newberry to take a 6-1 lead after one quarter.
The Battlers cut the deficit to four after a Jordan Look goal early in the second quarter. Ross took advantage of the man-up opportunity as Mansur was able to find him for the goal with 12:35 to go before halftime, making it 7-2. Newberry was able to get four more goals while Alderson Broaddus got one more to make it 11-3 in favor of the Wolves at intermission.
The Battlers did not go away quietly as they score two goals in the third frame and holding Newberry to no goals to make it 11-5 going into the final quarter. The Wolves were able to put the game on ice as Ross and Kearnan were able to add their final goals.
The Wolves took advantage of the extra man opportunities, scoring on four times on eight opportunities.
Kyle Dunklee lead the way for Newberry with ground balls, grabbing seven. Messersmith added four ground balls while
Andrew Briones,
Gregory Gerber Jr. and Swingruber grabbed two each, respectively.
Kearnan was force on the defensive end as well, causing three turnovers. Dunklee, Briones and
Zachary Payne had two caused turnovers each.
Newebrry as a team won 14-of-23 face-offs with Messersmith leading the way, winning 10 face-offs.
Jacob Katopol and
Zachary Dadabo won two face-offs each.
Erick Szurley went the distance in net to earn the win, making 16 saves on 22 shots faced.
The Wolves will have a quick turnaround as they face Davis and Elkins this Monday at 1 p.m.
