Box Score NEWBERRY- The Newberry Men's Team bounced back after a 3-4 loss to Emmanuel College yesterday, by defeating the Southern Wesleyan Warriors 4-3 in Central S.C.
The Wolves struggled in doubles play as the Warriors were able to take two out of three matches.
Marcel Schomburg and
Luca Kirchhoff were able to give the Wolves their lone win. The duo took on Segreda and Olatunji in a tough battle, prevailing over their opponent 6-3.
After starting off to a shaky start in doubles the Wolves focused on singles play to give them a chance at victory. The Wolves were successful in doing so, winning four out of six matches to put them ahead of the Warriors.
Edison Ambarzumjan started the Wolves off with a crucial victory after the match was forced to a third set. The German standout prevailed over Maria 3-6 ,6-2, 7-6. Newberry continued to battle as four out of the six matches went to a third set in order to pull out the point needed to win the overall match.
Enrico Haas eased by his opponent Kovats, by a 6-2, 6-3 margin. Luca Kirchoff fed of his doubles victory by overcoming Olatunji 6-1, 6-2.
Luke Layton was able to get his second singles victory of the year against Segreda by winning 6-3,3-6 and 6-3.
The Wolves return to action at the Queens University Invitational, starting on Oct. 26. The two day invitational tournament will take place in Charlotte, N.C.
